yesterday, well... to say that it was a shocker of a day would be an understatement really.

as usual woke up early and rushed to yishun for training. trained as per normal, and ya this doesn't really require elaboration.

after that as usual we went to the back of the alley for our regular debriefs and stuff... but this time it was gonna spring a surprise that probably would leave a sore sticking in my stomach for a while.

well to cut the story short - uncle henry announced that he was leaving the team. yes. with effect from yesterday.

that pretty much left my mind blank in shock for the rest of the day.

well before he announcd that he was leaving, he said something like this. "well i'm sure some of you guys still feel that you are not ready for nationals, but let me tell you all this: all of you ARE ready."

probably that was to be his final words for us? hahaha oh man i think i'm making it sound like he's gonna die or something.

but no la! of coz not. he's becoming head coach of the singapore national team - and of course we will miss him but he's moving on for greener pastures and to bring glory to our country, which of coz is more important...

well i can't find a picture of him online. haha except one. which is the above. lol dunno which era taken in one.

hmmm although it would say that the timing might be a little well - not so gd... but well i must say that i've been really really honoured to have uncle henry as a coach, and under him my game has definitely improved leaps and bounds.

bout half a year ago i started training with sajc, and that was the first time i met him. well he was really understanding that i was a spinner who just changed to hook, and of course didn't expect much from me and started working on my game from scratch and all. now half a year later, my hook now actually looks like a hook and yar my scores and everything have gone up significantly.

it's really sajc's loss, and a big loss it is. he really was the best coach around in singapore schools, and sajc is really really lucky to be the only school in singapore that uncle henry coaches. it's really been exclusive coaching i must say. and with a coach of such high calibre to charge us so little money per training session must really be our fortune.

well i ran a google on him just now, and the achievements he garnered over the years have really shown him to be one of the best of all time.

1968 - Silver medal at Asian Invitational in Hong Kong, his first ever overseas competition
1970 - Highest game (298) and 1st runner up at the World Cup.
1972 - Masters title at the CPA Far East Championship, Jakarta
1975 - All-Events gold medal at the 8th SEAP Games and the doubles silver medal at the World FIQ
1979 - Masters title at the National Championships
1983 - Gold in Team of 3 and Team of 5.

Coach of the year - 1983
Singapore Sports Council Hall of Famer

honestly, i do feel ready for nationals. =)
