around 12 months ago, i was at victors superbowl watching the final day of the 2005 a division national championships.
although victors was a huge alley, the entire area was filled with supporters from all schools alike. but one particular school stood out, and that was sajc.
armed with what seemed like a few hundred supporters, the sajc crowd stood firmly behind their teams, cheering them on shot after shot after shot. i still remember aloy rolling a four bagger, and the crowd simply went ecstatic.
12 months later, im bowling IN the team i watched as a spectator, right in the heart of events. Finally, its over, and really its been a championship to remember, for every thing good and bad.
preparations for this truly started a few months back. i had taken off my guard for about two months liao and been working on fingering my ball. thankfully one day at practice i just decided to put it back on and de scores were amazing. so yar i made the decision to put in back. anyways i was thinking nationals was coming and if i didnt do anyting quick i wouldn't even make the team.
roll-offs was quite an experience by itself. it was held over two days and on the first day i bowled a disastrous 162 avg. really worked hard that week and finally efforts paid off with a 185 avg on the second day. so yar got picked into the team which until now i find a blessing coz there were definitely individuals who showed that they had wad it took to make it but didn't.
was pretty psyched up for nationals if i remember correctly. for bowling being one of the last ccas to complete their season, many had already finished theirs and had medals to show for it, so that was quite an encouragement. also this whole "team sajc" thing is special really. brings the whole school together.
first day, singles. maybe it was nervousness. or that i was unsettled. or that the lanes were oily. or wadeva reason it is - i didn't bowl well. honestly it was pretty disastrous. a 164 average put me in 43rd spot and with a huge boulder to climb - probably as tall as mount everest. nevertheless the school did well and that was wad mattered really. so the 164 didn't exactly put me down somehow. haha rugby was won on that day too.
doubles event. and from 43rd i jumped to 28th after bowling a 180 avg. pretty consistent performance with my lowest score being a 16+. so yar was quite happy wif that. but then again with only quartets left i knew that it was gonna be tough la. ohwell just do my best. team events really the best chance for a medal.
so with that mentality in mind, went into quartets. and on the first day, i think we achieved wad many wldn never have expected us to. first two games our series were 740 and 751, which for a team 3 is totally amazing la. although the last game wasn't as spectacular it was still good and we finished with a 180 team avg. amazing stuff. i even hit a 243! hahaha quite shiok. shout until sore throat.
i guess all of us were pretty nervous for the second day for we knew that we had an outside chance of a medal placing. so for the first few frames even i was unsettled. luckily towards the end we picked up a little and ended with a 713... so not a gd start but not too bad either. second game i hit another 243 again. wth right? hahahaha funny quartets. so overall the team scored a 731... with that finished, we knew we needed somewhere around 800 to place within the medals? probably that got us carried away. hai wasted wasted wasted. coz some of us totally crumbled under the pressure and our team hit a 594 for the last game.
ohwells sometimes u succeed. sometimes u fail. but the lessons learnt along the way are the really valuable ones. personally i think it has been a gd experience although i definitely aimed higher... to be able to jump from 43rd to 21st has been quite a fight and the team event was a very gd experience.
anyways whats most important is the team. and the thing is SAJC WON!
