i think i owe myself an F1 blog. din blog for last week's race.

so yeah if you think that it's all about cars going around in circles then i think it's better if u just zao from this place now. heh...

aniwae here goes. last f1 entry for this year.

the prelude to this season's formula one championships was probably a major hint that this was going to be one heck of a year. ferrari had dominated the circuit since 2000 until 2005 where the blue of renault took over as the scuderia ran into one of the most troubling years in their history - winning only one race at indianapolis which saw only bridgestone cars racing after cars on michelin tyres pulled out.

many people thought about it, doubted it, but doubted their doubts again. it was the revival of ferrari on everyone's minds and only the team themselves knew whether or not they were capable of once again dominating at the pinnicle of motorsport.

and the season opener at bahrain proved everything. qualifying was 1-2 schumacher and massa and boy were we for a ferrari revival. however it was not to happen as renault dominated the opening few races with ferrari playing catchup. but by this time it was apparent that mclaren lacked the speed and reliability to compete with either team and honda having promised so much too was unable to be competitive.

so therefore we were set for a ferrari vs. renault year. and so it turned out to be. at san marino ferrari's revival truly started with schumacher winning and he followed it up at the next race with a win at the european gp. but when the momentum was all wif schumacher alonso showed his class and won the next four races. at that point his lead was a mighty 25 pts and some were already settled on him winning the championship.

but if schumacher was to have his way things went for a dramatic change. he won five of the next seven races and by the time they reached suzuka both were tied on points. neck to neck. and well eye to eye too. this was turning out to be one heck of a year.

along the way there were many other significant happenings too. after 114 starts Jenson Button claimed his first ever GP victory - one that was definitely long overdue. At Hungary rain pelted down throughout qualifying and it had turned out be an exciting affair after both schumacher and alonso were disqualified - one for ignoring red flags and the other for ignoring two yellow flags. hilarious it seemed but true. the two champions had shot themselves in the foot.

by the time the race started the rain had stopped but the track had not dried up. both alonso and schumacher showcased their top of the line driving skills by going through the entire field - with alonso eventually grabbing the race lead and schumacher close behind. however a poor pit by the renault crew saw a wheel nut spin off the rear wheel of alonso's car and he crashed out after losing control.

by now schumacher was second but with a tyre that almost had no traction on it. it was going to be a close call for the ferrari team and they chose to stay out. eventually the wheel gave way and schumacher rolled his car slowly back into the pits. it was such an exciting race and by the end of it button emerged victorious with de la rosa claiming podium in only his second start for mclaren and heidfeld too gaining the first podium of the year for BMW Sauber.

another happening race shld be the previous one - at brazil on the famous interlagos circuit. a failed fuel pump meant that schumacher did not register a timing on Q3 and thus he wld start from tenth on the grid. massa grabbed pole again and drove a superb race from start to finish, becoming the first brazilian since ayrton senna's emotional victory in 1993. he came to a standstill after he crossed the finish line and grabbed a brazilian flag and waved it around the entire circuit... meanwhile the fans in the stands went wild.

other exciting events were coulthard's superman podium in monaco and kubica's podium in his third ever f1 race.

anyway back to the real race. and that was between schumacher and alonso. not that there was much of a race afterwards. suzuka, one of schumi's favourite tracks became one of his most unluckiest as after leading the race by 15 seconds, he retired with an engine failure, practically gifting the victory to alonso, while he claimed a total of zero points.

so heading to the finale at interlagos wasn't much of a finale after all, with alonso only needing one point which is 8th position to claim the drivers'. so yeah. which he dutifully did.

ohwell it has been excitement all year round. schumi's retiring and so is ross brawn and jean todt is no longer managing the f1 team. ferrari next year is gonna be so damn different i think we might not even recognize them. but never mind as long as they can recognize their winning ways can liao. kimi is a damn exciting driver and hopefully now with a damn reliable car like ferrari he can start becoming a world champion. massa too shows great potential so we'll see bout that.
